All electronic equipment situated within the navigation bridge area onboard larger vessels (IMO/SOLAS vessels) shall be type approved according to the international standard IEC 60945. This is the background for the type approved Marine Trackball.
Marine Type approval IEC 60945:
In July of 2003 the MOUSE-TRAK Desktop Industrial trackball was submitted to Danish Electronics, Light, and Accoustics (DELTA) for type approval testing in marine environments. The tests performed included extreme temperature operation, extreme humidity operation, resistence to vibration, resistence to radiated radio frequency interference, resistence to electrostatic discharge, radiated emission measurement.
All tests were performed to standards specified by the International Electrotechnical Commission and the International Association of Classification Societies, LTD. DELTA's certification facilities and processes are accredited by DANAK (Danish Accredation), which bases accredation on several European standards.
